Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how SipScan handles bottle and meal photos, collection data, support requests, and app usage information in connection with the service.
1. Introduction and scope
This Privacy Policy explains how Sentez Inc. ("Sentez," "SipScan," "we," "our," or "us") collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use the SipScan mobile application, website, and related support services.
SipScan is an AI-powered drink identifier and collection manager. The service is designed to identify alcoholic beverages from photos, surface tasting notes, estimated value, and food pairings, and help adult users manage a personal cellar.
By using the service, you acknowledge that your information may be processed as described in this Privacy Policy. SipScan is intended for adults of legal drinking age.
2. Information we collect
We collect information you provide directly, information generated through your use of the app, and certain technical data from your device.
- Photos of bottle labels and meals you upload for identification or pairing analysis.
- Collection data you create: bottle entries, status (Tried, Owned, Wishlist), personal notes, ratings, and tags.
- AI-generated outputs such as identification results, tasting notes, estimated values, quality scores, and pairing suggestions.
- Support information you send us, such as your email address and the contents of your messages.
- Device and technical data such as device model, operating system, app version, crash logs, diagnostics, IP address, region, and language settings.
- Usage data such as feature interactions, session timing, subscription state, and aggregate engagement metrics.
- Age confirmation information used to gate access to the app, in compliance with App Store and local rules on alcohol-related content.
3. How we use your information
We use collected information to operate, improve, protect, and support SipScan.
- To analyze bottle and meal photos and return identification, value, and pairing results.
- To maintain your collection, cellar value dashboard, scan history, and personal notes.
- To send relevant in-app and push notifications about your collection or product updates.
- To troubleshoot bugs, monitor reliability, and prevent abuse or misuse.
- To manage subscriptions and App Store-related service access.
- To respond to support, deletion, privacy, or billing inquiries.
- To improve our AI systems and product UX using only aggregated or de-identified data — never your raw photos.
4. AI processing and photo handling
4.1 What we collect. When you use the bottle identifier or food pairing engine, we collect a single still photograph captured in-app via the device camera or selected from the photo library. We do not collect biometric templates, depth maps, or video.
4.2 How we use the photograph. The photograph is used solely to generate the identification or pairing result displayed back to you in the app. It is not used for advertising, profiling, or training any AI model.
4.3 Third parties and storage. The photograph is transmitted over HTTPS to our backend on Google Cloud / Firebase, encrypted at rest and in transit. From our backend, the image is forwarded to our AI processing partner OpenAI L.L.C. (vision endpoint) solely to obtain the analysis result. Per OpenAI's API data-usage policy, content submitted via the API is not used to train OpenAI models, and is retained at OpenAI for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring before being deleted. We do not share your photos with advertisers, data brokers, or analytics providers.
4.4 Retention. The photograph and analysis record are retained on our backend until you delete the entry from your scan history, or for a maximum of 30 days, after which a scheduled cleanup job permanently deletes the image and the corresponding record. On-device copies are retained until you clear app data or uninstall the app.
4.5 Your control. You can revoke camera and photo library permissions at any time in iOS Settings, and you can permanently delete any individual scan or collection entry from inside the app.
You should only upload photos you have the right to use. SipScan's outputs — identifications, tasting notes, ratings, and price estimates — are informational only and are not professional appraisal, sommelier, medical, or legal advice.
5. Sharing of information
We do not sell your personal information for money. We may share information only when reasonably necessary to run the service, comply with law, or protect our rights.
- Service providers that support hosting (Google Cloud / Firebase), analytics (Mixpanel, Firebase Analytics), push delivery (OneSignal), subscription management (Adapty), diagnostics, and customer support.
- Payment and platform providers such as Apple, to the extent needed to manage subscriptions and transactions.
- Legal or regulatory authorities when required by law, legal process, or valid governmental request.
- A buyer, investor, or successor entity if we are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or asset sale.
6. Data retention
We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including service delivery, legal compliance, dispute resolution, and security enforcement.
Your collection, scan history, and notes are retained for as long as your account is active. You can delete individual records or your full account at any time.
7. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to certain processing of your personal information, and to request a copy of data associated with you.
To make a request, contact us using the details below.
8. Age restriction
SipScan is intended exclusively for users of legal drinking age in their jurisdiction (21+ in the United States, 18+ in most other countries). The app includes an age confirmation step at first launch.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone below the legal drinking age. If you believe an underage individual has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will review and delete it as appropriate.
9. International transfers and security
Your information may be processed in countries other than your own. We take commercially reasonable steps to protect data using administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards appropriate to the nature of the information.
No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security of data transmitted to or stored through the service.
10. Changes and contact
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date and publish the updated version through the website or app.
For privacy questions, deletion requests, or data-related concerns, contact us at hey@sentez.co.
